Statue Bastar; Antique Indian Dhokra Horse and Rider Sculpture

Measures 5" Tall

Late 19th Century sculpture portraying Indian Warrior mounted on horse with a sword in right hand. The dress is Traditional Southeast Asian Indian. The horse is in tribal dress, showing the style of Classic Dhokra (Dokra).

The horse : It takes the preponderant place in this statue: disproportionate, the rider appears very small, the head not exceeding the ears of the horse which have an impressive size. The horse's attributes are there to show us its importance: ceremonial dress with numerous decorations on the neck and body, very beautiful harness with a bit and a halter, braided mane.

The rider: The rider is sitting upright in the middle of his horse's back. One hand holds the bridle and the other his sword. He is dressed in a traditional loincloth, a scarf and a beautiful ceremonial collar.
